Bitcoin tumbles 3% to $76,000 as hopes of CLARITY Act passage this year fade

Bitcoin fell sharply on Tuesday, dropping 3% to trade near $76,000, as optimism faded that the CLARITY Act could pass this year. The digital asset had been climbing in recent weeks on hopes that the long-debated legislation would finally move through the Senate, but those expectations are now cooling fast.

The CLARITY Act, which aims to create a clearer regulatory framework for digital assets, has been stuck in committee as lawmakers disagree over key provisions. Without enough votes to advance, the bill appears unlikely to reach the floor before the legislative calendar runs out. That shift in sentiment hit crypto markets almost immediately.

Traders who had positioned themselves for a regulatory breakthrough began pulling back. Bitcoin's slide dragged other major tokens down as well, with Ethereum and Solana posting similar losses. Analysts say the market had priced in a fair amount of hope around the bill, and that hope is now unwinding.

Some observers still believe a revised version could resurface later, but for now the mood has turned cautious. Bitcoin remains well above its lows from earlier this year, though the failed momentum has left investors wondering what the next catalyst will be.
