BTCS is moving deeper into decentralized finance as the company expands its Imperium platform to Base, the Ethereum layer 2 network. Chief Executive Officer Charles Allen outlined the strategy during a Water Tower Research Virtual Insights Conference, saying the firm plans to use on-chain borrowing to manage capital more efficiently while keeping gross profit as a central performance measure.
The company reported $6 million in gross profit, a figure Allen pointed to as evidence that its approach to block rewards and validator operations is producing results. BTCS has positioned itself as a public company with direct exposure to blockchain infrastructure, and the shift toward Base is meant to lower transaction costs and reach a broader set of DeFi users.
Allen said the expansion fits the company's broader plan to grow revenue from on-chain activity rather than relying only on holding digital assets. Imperium, which handles staking and validator services, will now operate on a network that has gained traction for cheaper and faster transactions.
The move comes as several public firms look for ways to generate yield from crypto holdings without taking on excessive risk. BTCS intends to use borrowing carefully, balancing debt against the value of its assets. Allen added that gross profit gives investors a clearer view of how the business performs before other expenses are counted.
The company has not disclosed a timeline for the full Base rollout, but Allen said the work is already underway. Shares of BTCS trade on the Nasdaq under the ticker BTCS.
