An Indian agricultural company is moving a massive loan portfolio onto the blockchain in a step that could reshape how rural credit is tracked and traded. Arya.ag is putting $2 billion in grain-backed loans on-chain, turning physical crop collateral into digital tokens that can be monitored and settled in real time.
The shift matters because grain-backed lending has long relied on paper records, manual inspections, and slow verification. Tokenization allows each loan to carry a digital record tied to stored commodities, which can reduce fraud and make it easier for lenders to confirm that collateral actually exists. For farmers and warehouse operators, the change could mean faster access to credit and clearer ownership trails.
Analysts note that this is one of the larger real-world asset experiments in agriculture, a sector that has been slow to adopt blockchain tools. If the model works, it could serve as a template for other emerging markets where smallholder farmers struggle to prove their assets to banks.
The project also highlights a broader trend: crypto technology moving beyond speculation into everyday finance. By linking grain to tokens, Arya.ag aims to build trust between lenders and borrowers while opening the door to new forms of investment in agricultural debt.
