Mastercard gives stablecoin a background check with new security tool

Mastercard has introduced a new security tool designed to give financial institutions better visibility into stablecoin activity on blockchain networks. The product, called Stablecoin Security, provides risk assessments that help banks and payment providers evaluate the exposure connected to stablecoin transactions before they settle.

The announcement was discussed by Scott Melker, who noted that the move reflects growing institutional interest in digital assets and the need for compliance tools that match traditional finance standards. As stablecoins play a larger role in payments and settlement, institutions face pressure to screen counterparties and flag suspicious activity across public ledgers.

Mastercard's tool aims to bridge that gap by scoring risk and delivering insights that banks can use in their existing compliance workflows. The company has been expanding its crypto related services in recent years, positioning itself as a link between conventional payment rails and blockchain based systems.

The development comes as regulators and financial firms pay closer attention to how stablecoins are used and who is moving them. For institutions considering digital asset products, tools that offer transparency and risk data could make adoption easier and reduce friction with supervisors.

Melker's program airs daily at noon and covers developments across the crypto market.
