Marquette University alumna Mary Ellen Stanek, who graduated from the College of Arts in 1978, has been recognized with a lifetime achievement award from the Museum of American Finance in New York City. The honor celebrates her decades of leadership in the financial industry, as well as her extensive philanthropic work and community service.
Stanek is best known as the co-founder and former president of Baird Advisors, where she helped build one of the largest municipal bond management teams in the country. Under her guidance, the firm earned a reputation for disciplined investing and strong client relationships. Beyond her corporate success, she has served on numerous nonprofit boards, including those focused on education, healthcare, and the arts.
The Museum of American Finance, an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, presents the award to individuals who have made lasting contributions to the financial world and society at large. Stanek's career reflects a commitment to both professional excellence and giving back. In accepting the award, she emphasized the importance of mentorship and ethical leadership, noting that true success is measured not just by returns but by the positive impact one has on others. Her story serves as an example of how a well-lived professional life can also be a deeply generous one.
